Earlier this week I was asked what it takes to set up writer’s notebooks in the classroom: cost, time, content, etc. I shared why I use them in my post last year (The Wonderful World of Writer’s Notebooks), but this post is dedicated to the logistics.(You’re welcome, Jeffery Frieden!) To start, let me say that I keep a writer’s notebook alongside my students. If you want to paint your notebook's cover, then you can paint another piece of paper and glue it on. Or, get a cool printed sheet and glue that to your notebook. You can also repurpose fabric, like old T-shirts or jeans. Then, once your notebook cover is dry, add anything you'd like! Ideas include stickers, pictures, and drawings. To begin, choose a piece of scrapbook paper that is large enough to completely cover the front of the notebook, leaving the black binding visible. Spray the back side of the scrapbook paper with adhesive spray. Carefully line up the edge of the paper with the black binding on the cover.
